More about the Role

Eastern Animal Hospital is a multi-doctor, multi-department facility open 7 days a week that provides General Practice, Urgent Care, and surgery services to the greater Baltimore area. We are committed to delivering exceptional medicine, compassionate client experiences, and a supportive culture for our veterinary teams.

We are seeking a dynamic Hospital Administrator (HA) to lead the hospital’s business operations, drive sustainable growth, and foster an environment where both people and pets thrive. This role oversees all non-clinical operations and supports the MDVM in delivering high-quality medical care, ensuring the hospital operates efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with Heartland Veterinary Partners’ mission and standards.

Reporting to the Regional Director of Operations (RDO) and working in close partnership with the Medical Director (MDVM), the HA is responsible for the financial health, operational excellence, and cultural success of the hospital.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership

    • Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple departments including GP, urgent care, and specialty services.
    • Establish clear expectations and seamless communication between departments to ensure cohesive teamwork and operational efficiency.
    • Partner with medical leadership to ensure alignment on staffing, scheduling, and service delivery.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to maximize team utilization, client access, and employee engagement.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between hospital leadership, support center departments (recruiting, finance, marketing, HR, IT), and the RDO.

    Financial & Business Management

    • Develop, manage, and analyze the hospital’s P&L, ensuring targets are met or exceeded in revenue, EBITDA, and key KPIs (COGS, labor, productivity).
    • Drive budgeting, forecasting, and performance improvement initiatives in collaboration with the RDO and MDVM.
    • Evaluate service offerings and pricing strategies to ensure competitiveness and financial sustainability.
    • Oversee inventory management, purchasing, and vendor relationships to ensure profitability and compliance.

    Team Development & Leadership

    • Build and mentor a high-performing management and support team across multiple departments.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
    • Lead workforce planning, recruiting, and retention strategies to ensure appropriate staffing levels and strong employee engagement.
    • Coach department leads and supervisors in performance management and leadership growth.

    Client & Community Experience

    • Partner with medical leadership to ensure a consistent, high-quality client and patient experience.
    • Lead initiatives to strengthen client communication, satisfaction, and loyalty.
    • Represent Eastern Animal Hospital positively within the community and the broader veterinary network.

    Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies (DEA, OSHA, AAHA, state veterinary board, etc.).
    • Maintain safety standards for patients, clients, and staff.
    • Oversee risk management and ensure appropriate protocols are in place for controlled drugs, medical records, and facility operations.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in a multi-doctor veterinary, medical, or healthcare environment required.
  • Proven track record leading large teams and driving operational and financial performance.
  • Strong financial acumen, with the ability to analyze P&L statements and influence outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with multiple service lines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, or related field preferred; CVPM or MBA a plus.
  • Ability to work on weekends when needed.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.

Pay Range

USD $130,000.00 - USD $150,000.00 /Yr.
